"ONE PRINCIPLE - ANY SYSTEM"

Introspective classical and speculative training with
contemporary insight and applications for todays Warrior!

Koden Bujutsu - Shidokai  古傳武術士道會 or as it is colloquially known; Shidokai - Koden Bujutsu (Way of the warrior Society - traditional Japanese martial arts), is a contemporary system of classical based combative martial arts stemming from the skills and philosophy of the Samurai (Japanese warrior) and Ninja (guerilla and militia units) as used in actual warfare in ancient Japan. It is an effective and dynamic self defence and fighting system passed down from the weapons and hand to hand combat methods of these ancient Japanese warrior traditions. Training includes; yawara-taijutsu (hand-to-hand combat) covering: punching, kicking, throwing and restraining techniques, and also integrates buki-jutsu (weapons training) which covers: sword, long staff, knife and other weapons. Such training prepares one for, and yet also transcends actual defensive applications against an aggressor. It is a unique combat system that takes advantage of the principles of momentum, balance, timing and distancing against an unwarranted and unprovoked attack.

KODEN BUJUTSU TODAY

Shidokai Koden Bujutsu remains today, a truly multi-faceted, comprehensive, seamless, integrated and holistic combat systems without equal, much favoured by elite military, police and security personnel around the world for its opractical and effective tactics and startegies. Koden bujutsu is also held in high esteem and is highly regarded by other professionals who train in the system such as doctors, lawyers and educators who value the introspective and speculative nature of the training and studies. Authentic Shidokai Koden Bujutsu has a total, integrated (holistic) physical and spiritual outlook to training which offers - meditation: to focus your mind, stretching and strengthening exercises: to increase and maintain your overall fitness and health, effective self defence skills against: grabs, punches, kicks and attacks with weapons, and traditional samurai weapons training: to hone your skills and sharpen your reflexes. Shidokai Koden Bujutsu also teaches; survival skills, sensory training and the wisdom of the ancient samurai warrior traditions contained within the philosophy and code of bushido (the way of the warrior), the understanding and application of which will enable you to confront and respond resolutely without hesitation to daily challenges in life and business with focus and determination.

MIND-BODY-AND-SPIRIT

Training in koden bujutsu also offers a traditional "Zen," style approach to mental and spiritual awareness and development, which utilises special training techniques and methods to assist with coordinating the mind-body-and-spirit. To calm and focus the mind, classes begin with a brief mokuso -mind focusing period, followed by the reciting of the seven precepts of bushido (the code of the samurai). Junbi undo and suburi - warm-up, stretching and core strengthening exercises assist with the development of health, fitness and overall well-being that prepare the body and mind for keiko - formal training. Classes end with hansei - mental reflection, to relax the body and assist with internalising the content of the training.

YAWARA-TAIJUTSU

Japanese hand-to-hand combat:

The defensive tactics of yawara-taijutsu do not rely overly on physical strength or brute force to overcome an attacker! The strategy of  yawara-taijutsu stems from the concepts of "yawara," and "aiki inyo ho," or integrated energy and flexibility in combat i.e. receiving and absorbing the attacker's force and defeating him in counter-attack, this utilises the attacker's own aggression, force and momentum back against the aggressor.  Yawara-taijutsu techniques are natuarl and easy to learn and training is geared towards effective self-defence against common and habitual acts of physical violence by one or more aggressors. yawara-taijutsu training addresses unarmed defensive tactics against; grabs, bear hugs, head-locks, chokes, punches, kicks and attacks with weapons such as knives, sticks and armed hold-ups with pistols and rifles.

BUKI-JUTSU

Weapons Training:

Training in buki-jutsu (the art of samurai weaponry) is an important and integral part of the Shidokai koden bujutsu curriculum. Training includes; batto-kenjutsu (Japanese swordsmanship), chobo-jutsu (long-staff techniques), hanbo-jutsu (short-staff techniques), kobo (pressure-point techniques) and other traditional weapons. Training with weapons stimulates and improves hand-eye coordination, mental focus and physical dexterity. The rationale for training with the classical weapons of the samurai in the new millennium lies in the relief of stress caused by the day-to-day hustle and bustle of our modern lifestyle and in maintaining an ancient honoured tradition (listed as intangible cultural assets in Japan). Training emphasises spiritual forging, which engenders "bushidamashi," (the Samurai warrior spirit), a quality that is as relevant now as it was hundreds of years ago. Advanced weapons training covers; naga-mono - pole-arm, spear and lance, boshuriken - throwing blades and kusari-dogu - chain weapons. Buki-jutsu also improves your unarmed hand-to-hand self-defence training by heightening your awareness of timing and distancing, honing your overall skills and sharpening your reflexes. Proper training and correct application of buki-jutsu principles, will provide a strong body and mind along with a calm, clear and focused spirit.
